Exploring what’s Free at the S.H.A.R.E. Center

By: Justine Nerio, PAC PULSE Staff Reporter

The S.H.A.R.E. Center is a great place to get resources to help your experience at Palo Alto College, but did you know that you can get help in different ways for free? On November 4th, PAC student, Mariana Pasillas, a communication major, went to the S.H.A.R.E. Center to take advantage of the free clothes closet. Pasillas was able to get a professional blazer for an upcoming student panel with Congressman Joaquin Castro along with several other articles of clothing. Pasillas says, “ The free clothes closet is a great place to come and get clothes that would not be so easy to find out at any other store. The closet has great business and business casual outfits fit for any official occasion.” This list does not contain all of the free items that Palo Alto College offers. The list below highlights only 4 of many free services at the S.H.A.R.E. Center.

1. Clothes Closet

The S.H.A.R.E. Center offers many services that require prior registration, but the clothes closet is one where you can simply walk in. Be sure to visit during posted open hours, sign your name, provide your student ID and you will have access to a vast collection of clothes. Each person is allowed to take up to 6 items per day, per person. You do not need to be a Palo Alto College student to take advantage of the closet.

2. Food Pantry

Palo Alto College has partnered with the San Antonio Food Bank to help the students in our community. The food bank has provided the College with “grab and go” bags and grocery bags that are available for pick up at the S.H.A.R.E. Center. While the “grab and go” bags are available to PAC students, it is worth noting they are not currently provided for dual credit and ECHS students. The grocery bags option contains 3 meals that students, staff and faculty are able to pick up twice a month. To sign up and get registered to receive your free “grab and go” bag along with your grocery bag, click the link provided at the bottom of this article.

3. Mental Health Counseling

The S.H.A.R.E. Center offers 5 free counseling sessions. Sessions are held over zoom, over the phone or email. All sessions must be scheduled at this email: pac-counselor@alamo.edu.

4. Diaper Program

The S.H.A.R.E. Center also offers a diaper program to help the parents of PAC. Through our campus’ partnership with the Texas Diaper Bank, PAC provides a month’s supply of free diapers and wipes.
