The Poteet Strawberry Festival is around the corner. Poteet, TX, known as the “Strawberry Capital of Texas” is hosting their annual strawberry festival from April 12th to the 14th for a weekend dedicated to vendors and a good time with music, carnival games, and so much more. A Palo Alto College student shares his love for this festival and community that is down south of San Antonio in Poteet, Texas.

Francisco “Pako” Sauceda is a sophomore here at Palo Alto College. He’s been running his business, Pako’s Tees, since 2019 and has been participating in the Poteet Strawberry Festival since 2021. “When I first started my small business journey, finding a market or an event where I could show and sell my products was really challenging… This is my third year selling at the festival and I’m really happy to say that it has been a really good opportunity to promote my business and give something back to the community,” says Pako.

The first year this festival was hosted dates back to 1948. Strawberries are the main attraction to the crowds of more than 100,000 people where the demand is greater than the supply. The annual festival is typically held the second weekend of April every year. Sauceda, along with countless numbers of farmers, non-profits, small businesses, and foundations for scholarships, find this festival crucial to the growth and love for this community.

Sauceda and the many other vendors are patiently waiting for this weekend of fun and business. They will be set up across the 100 acres of land off of state Highway 16, Poteet, Texas. They welcome all of San Antonio and surrounding cities to come out and share a good time with food, Tejano music, and of course the strawberries!
